Parent Leadership Council (PLC)
What is the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Parent Leadership Council (PLC)?
The ESOL PLC is a district-wide advisory committee composed mainly of parents of English Language Learners (ELLs) and Immigrant students. The PLC selects a chairperson and vice-chairperson to serve as parent-leaders.
What are the functions of the ESOL Parent Leadership Council (PLC)?
Parents in the ESOL PLC are involved in their children’s educational programming by providing input on how the district’s ESOL program can better serve ELL and Immigrant families in Hernando County Schools. The ESOL PLC also monitors the implementation of the DOE/META Consent Decree, ensuring the rights and services of students who are acquiring a second language.
How often does the ESOL PLC meet?
The ESOL PLC has two to three meetings per semester, either in person or via Zoom. During these meetings, the PLC discusses ways to better support ELL and Immigrant families with helping their students succeed academically while acquiring English as a second language.
