Frequently Asked Questions...
- How Do I know which eSchool program my child is registered in?
- Check your initial registration email from our Guidance Counselor. This will tell you which program your child qualified for at the time of registration.
- Note: If your child was withdrawn from a class for not working, their status will have been changed to the Home Education Program and you will need to register for testing with the Home Education office.
- How does eSchool assign testing to each student?
- Once your student is accepted into our program (Full-time or Home Education), we determine which tests will be needed for the school year and what testing administrations they will be given in. We assign testing dates and times to our Full-time students automatically. We provide the Home Education office with a list of tests each Home Education eSchool child needs, but they require families to register for testing with them in order to assign testing dates and times. The Home Education webpage can provide more information on this process.
- How do I find out what tests my student should take?
- You can contact the eSchool Assessment office at eschooltesting@hcsb.k12.fl.us to receive a list of tests and testing window dates for your student. Actual test dates are assigned automatically by the eSchool Assessment Coordinator at least one month prior to the opening day of a test administration window.
- How do I find out when testing will take place?
- Go to the Florida Department of Education website and do a search for assessment schedules for the current school year. Their document will provide you with all four testing administration windows for the current school year. We email specific test dates and times for your student no less than one month prior to the first day of the test administration window.
- How students notified of their test dates and times?
- Full-time eSchool families receive an email no later than one month prior to the first day of a test administration window with exact dates and times your student will need to test. We use the parent/guardian email of file at the time of registration to notify families of testing schedules.
- Home Education eSchool families who have registered to test with the Home Education office will receive an email or phone call with their exact testing dates/times.
- Will my student be taking paper or computer assessments?
- Grades 3-6 take paper-based assessments. Starting in Grade 7 all assessments, except Grade 8 Science, are computer-based assessments.
- Can my student take state assessments on the computer at home?
- The state of Florida requires students to attend state testing in a face-to-face setting, with a trained testing administrator.
- What are the testing requirements to receive a Florida High School diploma?
- All students wishing to receive a High School diploma must take and pass the Algebra 1 EOC and the Grade 10 FSA ELA or receive a concordant score. Students must also take the Geometry EOC, the Biology EOC, the US History EOC and the Florida Civics Literacy Exam for US Government.
- Does my student have to make up missed exams?
- Students must make up end of course exams in order to receive credit for the course. The only exception to this rule is if the student took Civics, Biology, Geometry, or US History in the 2019-2020 or 2020-2021 school years (the COVID years). Students who took those courses during the COVID years only need to make up the end of course exams if they wish to receive scholar designation on their diploma (more information on scholar designation is available on our Guidance page).
- Students who do not sit for Grades 4-9 ELA, Grades 3-8 Math or Grade 5 or 8 Science do not need to make up the tests. However, students who do not sit for these tests as assigned will not qualify for our Full-time program the following school year.
- What is a concordant score?
- Concordant scores are scores students receive on an additional exam to meet a graduation requirement. The Department of Education sets the values required according to cohort (graduating class).
- How does my child obtain a concordant score?
- Students may take the following tests to obtain a concordant score: PSAT, SAT, ACT, and Geometry EOC. Hernando eSchool gives the PSAT and Geometry EOC. Students must register for the SAT or ACT online and pay the appropriate fees (fee waivers are available from Guidance if you qualify).
