Brooksville - The Hernando School District announces a change to the location of the May 30th school board workshop and regular meeting. District officials are preparing for the potential of larger than normal attendance due to increased media attention surrounding the showing of a Disney film in a classroom. In addition to the change of venue, the district will implement additional security measures to ensure the school board meeting is conducted safely and without interruption.
The May 30th school board workshop (12:00 PM) and regular meeting (6 PM) will be held on the campus of Hernando High School, in the campus theater. The following security requirements are in place:
- Bags (purses, backpacks, etc.) will not be allowed in the theater and all attendees will be required to be screened by metal detectors.
- Additional law enforcement and school guardians will be present throughout the meeting.
- Those who plan to attend the workshop and the regular meeting will be required to exit the theater at the end of the workshop and to re-screen prior to the start of the 6 PM regular meeting.
- With the exception of water, no food or drink will be permitted in the theater.
Attendees and members of the media will park in the front parking lot adjacent to Howell Avenue. The side lot, to the right of the school, will not be open to the public.
Members of the media planning to cover the event are asked to contact the Public Information Officer to ensure that enough seating and space are reserved. Media will have all equipment bags searched prior to entering the theater.
