18 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE
October 23, 2020- Marking the 18th consecutive year, the Hernando School District has been recognized by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) with a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for 2019. According to the GFOA, this certificate represents the,“highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting.”
To fully demonstrate financial transparency, school districts prepare and present a highly detailed, comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) to their stakeholders (and GFOA) at the end of each fiscal year.
From the GFOA media release: “The CAFR has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the CAFR.”
“Presenting the public with a thorough report of the school district’s financial health is a responsibility we take seriously. Doing so with consistent excellence is a testament to the commitment of our finance team who keep watch over public funds and prioritize fiscal discipline,” Superintendent John Stratton said.
School district CAFRs are available to the public and may be found on the Florida Department of Education’s website.
