School History
- John D. Floyd Elementary was founded in August, 1986. We will celebrate our 40th anniversary in August 2026!
- Our school is named after John Davidson Floyd who was a lifelong fighter for equal rights for all people and a quality education for all children .
- Mr. Floyd was a teacher for 11 years and then became Principal of Moton School, an all-black school for grades K-12 – up until mandatory integration came to Hernando County in 1967. He was Assistant Superintendent of Schools until his death in 1985.
