Elementary PE Department
During your first week in P.E., we will be discussing rules and safety of the class and equipment. After going over these procedures we will begin a variety of cooperative games that will carry us through the week. These games are designed to teach students how to work together and problem solve using various skills and tools. These lessons will help students build good relationships with their peers that will help them become more successful in team sports and many other units we will cover throughout the year.
It is very important to establish healthy eating and excercise habits early so these habits continue into adolescence and adulthood. Throughout this unit, students will be learning about healthy eating and ways to stay fit. We will introduce the different food groups and discuss foods that are healthy to eat "all of the time" vs. foods that should only be eaten "some of the time". Students will be actively engaging in a variety of excercise activities and fitness games while also learning about the different bones and muscles in their bodies.
During this unit students will learn about equipment used in the sports hockey and lacrosse. After learning about safety and equipment we will begin to introduce a variety of drills and excercises that will teach students the basic skills needed to be successful at hockey and lacrosse.
Throughout this unit students will work on the fundamental skills of the game basketball which include ball handling, dribbling, passing, and shooting . We will do this by participating in a variety of drills and activities that help build on these skills. Learning and mastering these basics make the rest of the game much easier!
Throughout this unit, students will be able to perform various soccer skills needed to play in the game of soccer. The focus will be on proper technique, accuracy and control as well as teamwork and cooperation. We will be focusing on specific skills such as ball control, dribbling, passing and shooting on goal.
