Pre-K Program for Children with Disabilities

PreK children cartoonFor this Pre-K program, students must first be identified as a child with a disability in order to qualify. Parents can contact the local Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System (FDLRS) for screening and evaluation if they suspect their child may have a disability. The number for FDLRS is (352) 797-7021.

Once students have been found eligible for an IEP, they can participate in the PreK program as either a full-time student or itinerant. Itinerant students attend their zoned school for therapies, mainly speech therapy.

Students who qualify for the full-time program may attend at their zoned school. The curriculum focus is on instruction in readiness skills, communication, independent functioning and social skills. Children become familiar with structure, work on social skills and pre-academic skills, and learn to communicate with adults and peers. These classrooms are staffed with a PreK Primary or Preschool Education ESE state certified teacher and paraprofessional(s).
